In this part we will explore deployment properties and take a look on options that we can configure.
Open Deployment Properties by clicking on Collection and going over to Tasks and clicking on Edit Deployment Properties
RD Gateway – the first tab slowing us the RD Gateway. We could have the clients automatically detect the RD gateway server settings or we could specify a particular RD Gateway and the tweak the Logon method, which our choices here are either Password Authentication, Smart Card or Allow the user to select betewwn those two when they connect up to the RD Gateway.
If we choose to use the RD Gateway credentials option for remote computers, what happens is we give the gateway credentials and everybody connects under the same credentials. (Not a preferred way of doing it, but there may be situations where that works out to be better for you)
(We will configure RD Gateway in different part)
RD Licensing – Each server already has 2 CALs for admins and that’s each and every server, but the idea is that there are just going to be used by admins to remote desktop in and go through and configure the server. Once we install RDS we must install a license server within 120 days or RD Sessions services will stop. Once we have installed the server we have to activate it and we need to purchase Client Access License, or CALs that match the licensing mode that we choose.
- PER USER – One user (using any device) can use RDS functionality on any server
- PER DEVICE – One device (used by any user) can use RD on any server
RDS EXTERNAL CONNECTOR – Multiple external users can access a single RD server
RD Web Access – Here we can see that our RD Web Access Server is rdwa01.mehic.se and if we scroll right, it gives us the URL that would be used to access the RD Web. (We will configure RD Web in different part)
Certificates – With certificates it shows us the certificates that are in use and gives us the certificate level, and we can see right here there’s a link that we can click that tells us about the certificate levels. We also have the option to create a new certificate, or if we have issued a certificate from a trusted cert authority, we can select an existing cert that could then be used by the connection broker, web access, etc.
So those are our Deployment Properties. In part 4 we will configure RD Web Access.
